How to Use the DNS Lookup Tool

  • Enter a domain: Type or paste a domain name (e.g., example.com) into the input field. The tool automatically strips http:// and www prefixes.
  • Select record type: Choose which DNS record type to query - A (IPv4), AAAA (IPv6), MX (mail servers), NS (nameservers), TXT, CNAME, or SOA.
  • View results: Results are displayed in a table showing record type, value, TTL, and additional details specific to each record type.
  • Reverse DNS: Use the Reverse DNS tab to find the hostname associated with any IP address.
  • Bulk lookup: Check multiple domains at once using the Bulk Lookup tab - perfect for auditing or comparing DNS configurations.

Understanding DNS Record Types

  • A Record: Maps a domain name to an IPv4 address. This is the most common record type used to point domains to web servers.
  • AAAA Record: Maps a domain name to an IPv6 address. Similar to A records but for the newer IPv6 protocol.
  • MX Record: Specifies mail servers responsible for receiving email for the domain. Includes priority values for failover.
  • NS Record: Identifies the authoritative nameservers for the domain. These servers hold the official DNS records.
  • TXT Record: Holds text information used for various purposes including SPF, DKIM, domain verification, and more.
  • CNAME Record: Creates an alias from one domain to another. Useful for subdomains that should point to the same location.
  • SOA Record: Contains administrative information about the zone including primary nameserver, admin email, and refresh timings.
