What is bedrockbot?

AWS documents bedrockbot as the generic robots.txt token for its Web Crawler knowledge-base connector. A customer configures authorised seed URLs and a crawl scope; this is not an AWS-wide public-web search index. Individual request headers include a crawler-specific UUID and can include a customer suffix, so bedrockbot is a prefix/token, not a complete literal header. AWS says this connector respects robots.txt and checks a specific bedrockbot-UUID group before generic bedrockbot rules. Its documentation notes that new customer-managed web-crawler connectors stopped being supported from 30 September 2026, while existing connectors continue.

How to Control bedrockbot

Block Completely

To prevent bedrockbot from accessing your entire website, add this to your robots.txt file:

# Block bedrockbot User-agent: bedrockbot Disallow: /

Block Specific Directories

To restrict access to certain parts of your site while allowing others:

User-agent: bedrockbot Disallow: /admin/ Disallow: /private/ Disallow: /wp-admin/ Allow: /public/

Set Crawl Delay

To slow down the crawl rate (note: not all bots respect this directive):

User-agent: bedrockbot Crawl-delay: 10

How to Verify bedrockbot

Verification Method:
The bedrockbot prefix is not proof of AWS origin. Confirm the request with the organisation that configured the connector and inspect AWS account or CloudWatch records where available.
